Barcelona Vacation & Lisbon Destination Wedding

I was invited to a wedding in Portugal this past Saturday, July 1st. My boyfriend Justin was a groomsman. I was sitting in the crowd.

If you’re a wedding photographer and you’re like me, you get invited as a guest to a wedding and you have to take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror and instruct yourself NOT to take your fancy camera with you to the wedding. “Maybe I can fit a small lens in my purse,” I found myself thinking as I got all dressed up and ready to go for the festivities. It’s so hard to resist the temptation to jam my camera body and favorite lens into a bag before heading out. Any kind of bag will do, to be honest. A small cross-body with a little extra room? I can always make it work. I just KNOW there are going to be so many beautiful moments to capture on a wedding day, and it feels like such a shame for me not to put my trusted companion to work.

So I left my camera tucked away in our hotel and I headed to the venue. It’s always nice to see the ceremony unfold from the guests’ perspective, and to dance the night away at the reception. Not that I DON’T do the latter at a wedding I am photographing. Because, quite frankly, I’m the type of photographer who will dance with you during your wedding reception because I’m a firm believer that the beginning of your marriage is worth being celebrated. And what better way is there to celebrate that to dance until your feet hurt?

I had brought my camera with me to Portugal because I was sure I’d have ample opportunities to capture the beauty of Lisbon and the splendor of Barcelona, which we ended up visiting as well for the first leg of our trip. We were already crossing the Atlantic for the wedding, so… why not? I left Europe feeling absolutely in love with these two cities. They were both so different but so beautiful in their own way.

I decided to share with you some of the images from our trip. It’s mostly pictures I took as we explored and toured both cities since, as I mentioned before, I left my camera tucked away in our hotel for the wedding. As you will probably see below, I am so fortunate to have such a wonderful boyfriend who is always willing to pose for me when I randomly stop him for a picture because I found an awesome spot with great light. And he’ll occasionally grab my camera and take some pictures of me too. 🙂 Enjoy!
