A few months ago, I shot a few family photos for Amber and her lovely family at Chelsea Piers, in the area close to the Carousel at Pier 62. It was such a fun family portrait session because we had the opportunity to capture some images of the entire family playing, laughing and having a great time together. We also got some great candid photos of Jags (their little boy) just running around and having fun. (You can see some of their photos HERE!)
Although we all want that nice photo we can frame of everyone looking at the camera and smiling, it’s the spontaneous and authentic images of our kids enjoying themselves that we all love. For this reason, during family sessions, I’m a firm believer in #letthekids, which is code for letting the kids be kids, or just letting them be themselves and do their own thing. I love capturing these types of images, even if it means running around behind kids and jumping up and down with them… doing anything to make them feel comfortable with me.
This is also what I did a couple of weekends ago at a family session for one of Amber’s close friends – Palmer – and her wonderful family. We got together at the second floor rooftop garden of The William Vale Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to capture some fun, spontaneous portraits of her and her family, which recently had a new addition – baby August. I got to hang out with Miles, their cute, adventurous two-year-old who loves Spiderman and had me on my toes the entire time.
I hope you love as much as I do the fun images you will see below!
