One of the things I love about my blog is that it gives me an opportunity to feature some of the amazing families and couples I work with! Although I’d corresponded with this family over email quite a bit in order to plan their session, it was my first time meeting them in person on their scheduled session day! We agreed to meet by the New Leaf Restaurant at Fort Tryon Park, which is a beautiful park that is full of pathways and gardens and is located in the uppermost part of Manhattan. They wanted fall family pictures and, despite it being so late in the season, I knew there would still be a great deal of fall foliage in the trees and a lot of it in the ground to have fun with. Fort Tryon Park is one of my top three location choices for fall engagement and family portraits sessions in NYC. You can read about my other top choices HERE!
I loved getting to know this family, especially Dylan and Cassidy, the couple’s two sweet and enthusiastic daughters. “I’m 8!” Dylan promptly told me as soon as I inquired about her age. “My sister is 6. She’s big for her age. And I’m small for my age.” Apparently, they get asked if they’re twins all the time.
The girls were a bit camera shy, but were more than willing to take pictures together. They spent the entire shoot making each other laugh. There were tickle fights, bunny fingers behind the head, and plain old ‘sticking their tongue out at each other’. They even stopped for a fun picture in front of a very calm squirrel that watched us closely from a nearby tree branch and let us approach him for some photos.
I love using photography to document those candid moments of life, like kids just having fun and being their normal selves. Here are some of my favorite images from the session! Enjoy!
