Okay, I will preface this blog post by saying the following: I have the most amazing boyfriend on this planet. He may occasionally leave his socks on the floor all over my apartment, and forget to throw out the trash unless I leave the bag by the front door. But the truth is, he is just AWESOME.
A few days ago, I felt like a kid right before Christmas day knowing presents are coming. I was beyond excited because I had just received in the mail this NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4 lens. You guys, this is the ‘Holy Grail’ of Nikon portrait lenses. It creates crisp images of my subjects with the most beautiful and incredibly delicious ‘bokeh’, which is a word used to describe blurred out, creamy backgrounds that seriously just melt like butter behind the subject. It’s a beautiful thing and I was just soooo excited to try it out a few days ago right after it arrived.
My boyfriend was so amazing the day after the lens came! He patiently stood out with me for almost two (!) hours while I moved him from spot to spot at the Chelsea Waterside Park (a small grassy area by Chelsea Piers in NYC) to test out the lens in different kinds of light. We got some incredible shots of him, and he also took quite a few shots of me after I set up the camera settings for him. I had been so busy with back-to-back portrait sessions and events that I hadn’t had a chance to share some of the pictures from our mini-session.
And now, after officially introducing the newest member of the Andrea Rodriguez Photography camera bag, I would like to direct your attention to the images below. And in the interest of full disclosure, I would like to say: Please brace yourself for a LOT of images of me and my boyfriend Justin. Enjoy!
